It was a pleasure to be a part of a four way collaborative team with some of my all time favourite people – Krista Vincent, Lynn Panting, Nicole Rousseau and I collaborated last fall on the presentation of the Orla Ensemble’s inter-disciplinary piece “Rites”. I worked as designer of the machinima sets and technical consultant with Nicole as director, Krista as producer/visionary/performer and Lynn as choreographer/dancer. Pat Dempsey was our lighting technician and projectionist.  It was awesome to be a part of such a sharp team. “Rites” ran for one night at the MUN School of Music. We are hoping to keep the collaboration going with some performance gestures in 2014.

One hundred years ago, Russian composer Igor Stravinsky debuted The Rite of Spring before a packed theater in Paris. With its outrageous sounds, unusual choreography and bizarre story of pagan sacrifice, this ballet premiere would go down as one of the most important – and scandalous – in classical music history. For one night only, Krista Vincent and the Ora Ensemble present Stravinsky’s own two-piano arrangement of this powerful work. With solo performances by members of the Ora Ensemble, dance by Lynn Panting, video by Liz Solo and special guest, pianist Simon Docking (Halifax), you’ll see that even 100 years on, Rites will continue to seize you by the ears, and break your heart. Tickets are $20/$15 and available at the door. For more information, please call 746-6841.
